How to get a Personal Licence

The DPS must hold a personal licence, or be able to get one before 24 November 2005. The forms to apply for one are the “Application for a Personal Licence” and the “Disclosure of Convictions and Declaration”.

The following MUST be attached to the application

  • Evidence of NCPLH qualification
  • Evidence of Criminal Records Bureau check
  • 2 photos (passport size), one endorsed to certify likeness
  • The fee of £37 payable to the council for where you live

WITHOUT A PERSONAL LICENCE THEY CANNOT AUTHORISE SALE OF ALCOHOL

Terms of Employment

A manager is of no use to a premises licence holder if they are not able or willing to be DPS. It should become a term of their standard terms and conditions of employment.

Bar Staff

The Act allows any personal licence holder or the DPS to authorise any bar staff, who do not have a personal licence, to sell alcohol. If you put this in writing the staff will be able to show they are authorised to sell alcohol even if there is no DPS nor personal licence holder present at the time of the sale. See the link below to access a specimen form.
